"Dead Poets Society" is a very nice book and I really enjoyed reading it. I didn´t have any problems to read it, because, for me, it was easy to understand. Although I didn´t know all of the words, you could conclude these from the context. Also, the book wasn´t very big, so you didn´t need to spend all of your time to finish it. As a person, who reads all sorts of books, I don´t have a favourite genre of books. But I liked this mix of drama, happiness and sadness. Although there isn´t that much action in it, for me, it includes everything, what has to be in a good and interesting story. What I didn´t like, is the very sad ending of this book. When I read it, I never thought about a blatant turning like this. Normally, there has to be a happy ending, and it really was missing. Theme in Dead Poems Society

"REBELLION" One of the main themes in the book is "rebellion". It´s the rebellion against the rules, the pillars of the school, it´s the rebellion against the parents and other authoritarian personalities like Mr Nolan, the headmaster of Welton Academy. But it´s also the rebellion about wrong values and convictions and of course, it´s the rebellion for more place for freethinker and experiencer. Although the idea of the rebellion is a bit hidden, the idea exists in each head of almost every member of the dead poets society. Todd, Charlie, Knox and of course Neil too: all these boys, for example, have to follow strict rules and have to represent wrong opportunities. Even Mr Keating is rebelling against these strict and (in his opinion) totally wrong teaching methods. There are many examples of successes of rebellion. Keating changed Todd

In my opinion, the character, who changed the most during the book, is Todd Anderson. In the beginning, he is very isolated, shy, lonely and sad. He isn´t very talkative and kind of afraid of new experiences. In the end, for me, he is one of the bravest, most loyal and strongest personalities in the whole book. Maybe because of his family, Todd lives very isolated and don´t want to talk with everybody or find as fast as possible friends. He lives for himself and although if he wants to try something new, he´s just to shy. But then he met Mr Keating, with who he became very close. I think at the beginning, he didn´t really like Keating much, because he "forced" him to do things, he´s normally to shy to do, like standing in front of the class and interpret a poem or scream as loud as possible. Neil´s death- who is to blame?

At the end of the book, Neil Perry commits suicide. He shoot himself with a gun from his father. Normally, Neil was a very enthusiastic and happy person, that´s why many couldn't understand why he would do something like that. Why committed somebody like Neil, a person who is loved by so many people, suicide? What happened? Who is to blame for this? If somebody decides to take his own life, something really bad must have happened. I think Neil thought about this for a long time and didn´t just does it. He had a very hard life, he always had to be perfect for his strict father, his whole life was already planned for him. He would go to Welton Academy, then to a famous university and then become a doctor. That´s what Neils father wants. But Neil is a freethinker. A unique person with own dreams for the future. Characterisation Todd Anderson

Although I like most of the characters in this book, my favourite character is Todd Anderson. In the book, he´s one of the main characters and plays a very important role in it. In the beginning, Todd is very shy and quiet, in general, a very isolated and lonely person. I think Todd never really had his own personal "moment to shine" because he always stands in the shadow of his older and very successful brother. His parents actually don´t really care about him, for example, they give their son the same presents for two years because they forgot, what he likes and already have. If you grow up with a family like this, it´s normal to become sad and isolated. But in his new school, Welton Academy, he finds good friends like Neil who help him to become more open. Also his favourite teacher Mr Keating makes him more communicative, brave and self-confident. He begins to write his own poems, which are very good. At the end of the book, he also finds the c

Summary Chapter 3

In the third chapter of the book "Dead Poets Society" by N. H. Kleinbaum, the text is about a visit from Neils father, Mr Perry. In the previous chapter, Neil told his friends, that he is allowed to work on the school annual, which made Neil very proud. But now, Mr Perry tells Neil to do this next year, because he takes too many extracurricular activities. Neil is very disappointed and sad about that and begins to discuss with his father, what doesn´t ends well for him. His friends tell him that he has to be more defensive. Neil gets angry and tells them to be quiet because most of the boys also just do what their parents tell them to do. The boys leave after they had made an appointment for studying later. Neil talks to his roommate named Todd and asks him what he thinks about Mr Perry. Todd just says that he´ll take him over his own father.
